Visit Scotland has launched a major new corporate campaign designed to encourage the tourism industry and investors in tourism to grasp the opportunities ahead.
The Winning Years is, according to Visit Scotland’s chairman, Mike Cantlay, an opportunity for tourism businesses to maximise on major events happening over the next few years.
The campaign has a number of objectives:
Encourage enthusiasm, support and investment in tourism in Scotland
Ensure tourism businesses benefit from the opportunities ahead over the next three-year period (from 2012-2014)
Highlight the eight fantastic events and encourage everyone to get behind them
The eight events are the Year of Creative Scotland, Brave (the new Disney Pixar movie), London Olympics and the Queen's Diamond Jubilee in 2012. The Year of Natural Scotland in 2013 and the Year of Homecoming Scotland, The Ryder Cup and the Glasgow Commonwealth Games in 2014.
“We have a three- year window in front of us, a once in a lifetime opportunity to change the face of tourism in Scotland and VisitScotland and our team at EventScotland intend to do everything they can to exploit it,” says Cantlay. “We need to make tourism the hero of the Scottish economy with everyone understanding its size and potential over the next three years. This is about benefitting everyone in Scotland, not just the tourism industry.”
